Following an attack on a stronghold known as the Anvil, Johnny Red has once again lost his memory. Wrongfully arrested as a deserter, the former leader of the Falcons is now a foot soldier in a penal battalion, but salvation is not far away. Leading a suicidal attack, Johnny regains his memory, and earns himself a pardon. Keen to be reunited with his squadron, Redburn is given an ancient  I-16 to use in his search for his comrades, but will the RATA be any match for the deadly HE-177 bombers he blunders into on his way home?
