This site is dedicated to the Johnny Red strip that appeared in Battle Picture Weekly for the ten years between the 29th of January 1977 and the 17th of January 1987. As the site builds, I will be adding pages on the history of the strip, the writer and artists, a timeline of the main story arcs, interviews with the creators and anything else of note. Eventually, the entire run of Johnny Red will be available here, although scanning over 500 issues of Battle will take a long time. Meanwhile have a look at what's here so far, and check back often. Latest Updates - 1/2/08
Progress on the site has been slow over the last months as a new A3 scanner was acquired for the bigger page sizes from 1980 onwards. Unfortunately, delivery was delayed by two months, and when it finally arrived, the scanner itself failed to live up to expectations, quickly developing a tendency to freeze whilst scanning, causing all around it to crash. This matter has been resolved, and scanning will resume in the next few weeks. Happily, Oisin Robinson has stepped into the breach and provided complete scans for 1985 and 1986, which I've edited and put online. The remaining 16 Carlos Pino episodes from 1984 will be put up alongside them soon, once they have been scanned.
