This site is dedicated to the Johnny Red strip that appeared in Battle Picture Weekly for the ten years between the 29th of January 1977 and the 17th of January 1987. As the site builds, I will be adding pages on the history of the strip, the writer and artists, a timeline of the main story arcs, interviews with the creators and anything else of note. Eventually, the entire run of Johnny Red will be available here, although scanning over 500 issues of Battle will take a long time. Meanwhile have a look at what's here so far, and check back often. Garth Ennis likes us, and likes Best of Battle too. In mild celebration, there's another two years of scans going online. Much thanks to Jim Marshall at www.bloodforthebaron.com for taking the time to scan the complete Action Force era of Battle, and for giving his Johnny Red scans to us. They've been edited to fit with the rest of the site, and 1984 is now online. We also have the latter part of 1983 ready to go, but this will be held back until the year is complete. 1981 has also been scanned and edited and will be online soon, when July to December have been completed. All of this activity means there are just under two years of issues still to scan from the ten years that Johnny Red was published. Expect the gaps to be plugged soon. Also, look out for downloadable versions of each year.
